DC weather history for October 27

A multi-day 1943 rainstorm ended a drought, while in 1957 a few early-season flakes were observed locally with more substantial snow in the mountains.

On this day in 1943, D.C. was in the midst of a five-day stormy period that resulted in 3.43 inches of rain between Oct. 24 and 28. The rain put an end to a drought affecting the area.

And on this day in 1957, a trace of snow was reported in D.C. while measurable amounts occurred in the mountains to the west. In Garrett County, Maryland, 2 inches fell. “But precipitation in the local areas was limited to rain and some sleet, with some snow coming in light and scattered flurries,” the front page of The Washington Post reported.
