DC weather history for November 8

A torrential 1943 storm set a monthly rainfall record and even spawned a tornado, before a sharp cold snap followed just days later.

On this day in 1943, a calendar-day and monthly record 2.95 inches of rain fell. The front page of The Washington Post reported two people died in car accidents amid the deluge. Twenty miles northwest of D.C., a tornado hit Washington Grove, Maryland, The Post wrote. The high reached a balmy 72 degrees that day but three days later, highs were 30 degrees lower and a trace of snow was reported.
