DC weather history for March 31

Unseasonable warmth in 1998 brought record mild nights, while more recently weak tornadoes in 2022 caused minor damage in Northern Virginia.

On this day in 1998, the high reached 82 degrees. The morning low of 63 degrees was a calendar-day record, and the high of 87 the previous day was also a record. The warmest temperatures were in New England; the high in New York City was 86; Boston, 89; and Portland, Maine, 88.

And on this day in 2022, weak tornadoes, rated EF0 on the 0 to 5 Enhanced Fujita scale, hit Centreville and Tysons in Virginia. The tornadoes caused minor damage but no injuries.
