DC weather history for April 27

A rare and intense 2011 outbreak brought numerous tornadoes to the region, part of a historic multi-day event across the eastern U.S.

On this date in 2011 and the next day, 19 tornadoes tore through the D.C. region. It was part of the 2011 “Super Outbreak” that produced 360 tornadoes, mostly in the South, over four days, and killed over 320 people. Of the twisters on April 27 and 28, 11 occurred in Maryland and 8 in Virginia.
