DC weather history for April 20

A rare late-season snow in 1983 brought flurries to D.C. as a major storm blanketed parts of the Northeast and set widespread cold records.

On this date and the previous in day in 1983, trace amounts of snow were reported in D.C unusually late in the season. The snow fell from a storm that dumped over a foot in parts of the Northeast. The storm, according to the news service UPI, produced 8 inches in Albany while New York City and Long Island observed a mix of rain and snow. Philadelphia reported 0.5 inches of snow. The snow fell as as dozens of cities set record lows from the Great Lakes to the South, UPI reported.
