Remnants of Tropical Storm Nicole in 2010 unleashed a record 4.66 inches of rain, causing widespread flooding and even spawning a weak tornado in the region.

On this day in 2010, a calendar-day record 4.66 inches of rain fell as the remnants of Tropical Storm Nicole passed through the area. Baltimore received over 6 inches.

“The torrential rains impacted transportation, which resulted in numerous road closures,” the National Weather Service wrote. “Isolated severe weather was reported as well as an EF0 tornado (winds to 80 mph) near Lake Shore in Anne Arundel County.”
