DC weather history for October 9

Extreme late-season heat in 2007 pushed temperatures to a record 94 degrees, part of the warmest October on record and a stretch that kept fall feeling like summer.

On this day in 2007, the temperature soared to a calendar-day record of 94 degrees, the highest ever observed so late in the year. It followed a record high of 91 the previous day and high of 92 on Oct. 7. “Unseemly high temperatures for this time of the year continue to keep autumnal crispness at bay,” The Washington Post reported. The average temperature that October was more than 6 degrees above the norm and the warmest on record.
