DC weather history for October 14

Severe storms in 1995 dumped record rainfall and spawned multiple tornadoes, contributing to one of the wettest Octobers on record.

On this day in 1995, a calendar-day record 3.36 inches of rain fell as a strong cold front triggered severe storms that also unleashed powerful wind gusts and tornadoes, according to the National Weather Service. One tornado in Arnold, Maryland, was on the ground for 3.8 miles and rated F1 on the 0-to-5 Fujita scale for intensity. The twister uprooted 120 trees. Two tornadoes were reported in Baltimore County.

The rain contributed to the fourth-wettest October on record in D.C. with 8.65 inches.
