DC weather history for November 30

A day of extremes features a major 1967 snowstorm, record cold in 1929, and record rainfall in 2020, highlighting the wide range of November weather.

On this day in 1967, a calendar-day record 6.9 inches of snow fell. It was the second snowiest November day ever observed. “The first snowstorm of the season buffeted the Washington area yesterday, disrupting air travel, snarling traffic, triggering thousands of power failures and causing early school closings,” The Washington Post reported the next day. Up to 11 inches fell in Loudoun County.

And on this day in 1929, the high of 24 and low of 11 were both the coldest on record for both the day and month.

And on this day in 2020, a calendar-day record 2.39 inches of rain fell. It was the seventh calendar day with at least two inches of rain that year, the most on record.
