DC weather history for November 28

A torrential 1993 storm dumped record rainfall, causing widespread flooding as streams overflowed and roads became impassable.

On this day in 1993, a calendar-day record 2.26 inches of rain fell. D.C. set a 24-hour November rainfall record, including the 1.77 inches that fell on the 27th. Rainfall totals of 4 to 8 inches were widespread throughout the region. “The tremendous intensity of the rainfall, accompanied by strong southeasterly winds, flooded numerous roads, forced streams out of their banks, and flooded basements,” the National Weather Service reported.
