DC weather history for May 17

A record-setting warm stretch in 2015 brought unusually warm nights and extended heat, helping make it the warmest May on record.

On this date in 2015, the high was 87 and the low of 70 was a calendar-day record-high minimum. It marked the first of three straight mornings with record-warm low temperatures of at least 70 degrees. Highs each of those days reached the upper 80s and low 90s. The warmth occurred after 10 straight days with highs of at least 80 during the first half of May, the longest such streak on record. And that May finished as the warmest ever observed.
