On this date in 1987, severe thunderstorms swept across parts of the Mid-Atlantic. Four tornadoes were reported in Virginia and the rain was torrential. Quantico, Virginia, received 2.4 inches of rain in an hour and Potomac, Maryland, registered 1.5 inches in 30 minutes.
