DC weather history for June 1

A rare outbreak of mainly weak tornadoes in 2012 delivered nine twisters to the D.C.–Baltimore region, with widespread tree damage across Maryland.

On this date in 2012, nine confirmed tornadoes touched down in the D.C.-Baltimore region, all of them in Maryland.

Three struck Montgomery County and one each in Anne Arundel, Howard and Prince George’s counties, The Washington Post’s Martin Weil reported. Two were in Carroll County, and another occurred in Harford County.

“These tornadoes mainly produced tree damage though there were a few reports of minor damage to homes/buildings,” Jason Samenow wrote at the time.

In addition, a pair of tornadoes hit southeast Virginia.
