DC weather history for January 2

A 2014 snowfall—modest in the city but heavier in the suburbs—snarled travel and ushered in a blast of polar vortex cold.

On this day in 2014, 1.9 inches of snow fell in the District but up to 5 inches fell in its northern and western suburbs. It was the biggest snowfall in nearly three years and it snarled travel and closed schools. Frigid winds followed the storm as a lobe of the polar vortex invaded the eastern United States.
