DC weather history for January 12

A follow-up 1996 snowfall added over 4 inches just days after the Blizzard of 1996, capping an exceptionally snowy January before a sudden shift to milder weather.

On this day in 1996, the District received 4.1 inches of snow. It came just three days after the conclusion of the Blizzard of 1996, which produced 17.1 inches. It pushed the month’s snowfall total to 23.8 inches but no more would fall the rest of January as the pattern flipped to a mild one.
