DC weather history for February 17

A 2015 cold wave kept temperatures in the teens as light snow added up over two days, shutting down schools and the federal government despite relatively modest totals.

On this date in 2015, 1.8 inches of snow fell, following 2.9 inches the previous day. The snow came amid an intense cold wave that extended from Feb. 15 to Feb. 21. Highs were mostly in the 20s that week with overnight lows in the teens and single digits.

Temperatures were in the teens as the snow fell ensuring every flake stuck. Schools and the federal government shut down on account of the powdery snow and some neighbors to the north mocked the area’s response.
