DC weather history for December 9

A record 1.29 inches of rain in 2009 helped fuel one of the wettest Decembers on record, boosted further by the moisture from Snowpocalypse later that month.

On this day in 2009, 1.29 inches of rain of fell in D.C., a calendar day record. That rainstorm contributed to what would become D.C.’s second-wettest December on record with 6.79 inches of rain and melted snow. The Snowpocalypse storm on Dec. 18 and 19 — which produced 16.4 inches of snow (or the equivalent of 1.45 inches of rain) — was another big contributor to the month’s precipitation output.
