DC weather history for December 18

The 2009 “Snowpocalypse” began with evening snow that quickly accumulated and set the stage for a historic storm the following day.

On this day in 2009, clouds lowered and thickened and flakes began to fly as the “Snowpocalypse” storm got underway. After a high of 35 degrees, the snow began between 8 and 9 p.m. and temperatures quickly fell into upper 20s. By midnight, 1.4 inches of snow had accumulated. A lot more would pile up the next day.
