DC weather history for December 16

A light 2010 snowfall marked the season’s first accumulation after the record snowy winter, though it still managed to snarl travel despite modest totals.

On this day in 2010, 1.5 inches of powdery snow fell in the District as temperatures hovered in the 20s. It was the first accumulation since the previous winter, which was the snowiest on record. “There was no evidence that drivers had become any more snow savvy because of the repeated and record-setting snowfall last winter,” The Washington Post’s Ashley Halsey III wrote.

That December ended up with 2.1 inches of snow, and no December since has produced more.
