DC weather history for August 29

Unseasonable chill in 1986 tied a record low for August, while in 1988 the remnants of Tropical Storm Chris brought soaking rains and gusty winds to the region.

On this date in 1986, the temperature fell to 49 degrees in D.C., tied for the lowest on record in August. Cool air spread over much of the Ohio Valley and East Coast, with dozens of record lows in the 30s and 40s.

And on this date in 1988, up to 3 to 5 inches of rain fell as the remnants of Tropical Storm Chris came through the Mid-Atlantic. Strong winds damaged boats in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. Around D.C., about an inch of rain fell.
