DC weather history for April 24

Severe storms in 2011 brought damaging winds and hail, with the hail even logged as a rare “trace of snow” in the records.

On this date in 2011, thunderstorms produced about two dozen reports of severe weather in Northern Virginia and Maryland. Most of the reports were from damaging winds that toppled trees, most numerous in Loudoun and Howard counties.

At Reagan National Airport, 0.74 inches of rain fell, along with hail. That hail is reported in weather records as a trace of snow. Snow was not possible on that day as the high was 85 degrees and the low was 57.
