Capital Weather is a place to share a love of weather, climate and the outdoors with others across the D.C. region and beyond. Your comments, questions and observations are a vital part of this community.
We welcome your questions, storm reports and perspectives, and we’ll do our best to engage with you as well. Your observations often help us better understand what’s happening across the region in real time, and we hope our forecasts and discussions help you stay informed and prepared.
We encourage you to:
- Ask questions about forecasts, storms and weather science
- Share storm reports, weather observations and local conditions
- Post relevant weather photos, radar screenshots and graphics for discussion (which we may later feature in our articles and on social media, with your permission)
- Bring your knowledge, curiosity and perspective — whether you’re a professional meteorologist, longtime weather enthusiast or just weather curious
Please keep the conversation respectful and constructive. Healthy disagreement is welcome. Personal attacks are not.
The following are not permitted:
- Name-calling, harassment, insults or profanity directed at others
- Trolling, inflammatory behavior or intentionally disruptive posting
- Political debates unrelated to weather, climate or public safety
- Spam, advertising or repetitive posting
- False or misleading weather information shared intentionally
- Inappropriate, graphic, offensive or completely off-topic photos/videos/media
- Posting personal or private information about others
Comments are subject to review and may be removed, and accounts suspended or banned, at our discretion. We use a combination of automated filtering tools and human moderation to ensure a safe, respectful environment. During severe storms or busy events, our system helps us filter out disruptive spam and keep conversations on track. If your comment is ever accidentally caught in the filter, please feel free to reach out so we can review it.
During high-impact weather, our comment sections may move quickly. Help us keep them useful by staying on topic, sharing reliable information and treating fellow community members with respect.
Since our beginnings in 2004, community conversation and two-way communication with our audience have been at the heart of what we do. Weather is something we all experience together, and our readers have long helped make our coverage smarter, more interactive, more useful and even more entertaining.
We’re glad you’re here and appreciate you being part of the Capital Weather community.
